Programme Manager, Allyship

We are looking for a multi-disciplinary individual to lead the development of our Allyship pillar, a pioneering workstream that aims to mobilise non-indigenous peoples to work together more meaningfully with the Orang Asli beyond status quo dynamics.

As a Programme Manager, you will build creative public engagement programmes and work on cultivating a network of allyship-aligned partners to grow a support network for the Orang Asli communities we work with through our community-based ventures and the Native Fellowship. You will play both a strategic and implementing role, where your work will shape our organisational strategy as you deliver programmes.

This role is great for individuals with experience in programme development, community engagement, and delivering learning experiences. We value individuals with strong generalist skillsets, alongside a strong primary competency. Your responsibilities include: 

  • Leading the development of the Allyship workstream for Native Allies, the sister non-profit to Native Discovery
  • Engaging institutional partners and nurturing an Allyship network to support our Orang Asli partners
  • Building relationships with our Orang Asli partners to better understand their needs and concerns and working with them on the ground to implement initiatives
  • Designing and implementing Allyship initiatives which align the aspirations of all our stakeholders within the scope of our organisational mission
  • Nurture and manage the growth of our public engagement programmes, with the goal of cultivating a community of practice for allyship in Malaysian society

*This position is semi-remote. You are to be based remotely but will be required to travel to communities for work (throughout Peninsular Malaysia) and meetings in the Klang Valley on a weekly basis (KL and Selangor). 

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience working in the fields of leadership development, community engagement, sustainability, or education. Other unique and relevant experiences outside of these listed fields will also be considered.
  • Experience in working with local communities on community development or social projects is a must. Extensive volunteer experience applies.
  • Good understanding of value-based leadership (either as an instructor or practitioner) is a big plus.
  • Possess a diploma/degree programme from any recognised university or college. All fields are welcomed.
  • An excellent command of spoken and written English
  • A working command of spoken and written Malay
  • Adaptive and fast-thinker who is able to work independently and also collaboratively as part of a team.
  • The ability to navigate conflict and manage polarities in thinking about issues is highly prioritised.
  • Thoughtful, good humoured, and kind individuals are desirable
  • Have own transportation (car) and be available to travel to communities independently

We provide:

  • A basic monthly compensation package of RM4,000 to RM5,000 depending on experience of the candidate. This may slide up or down depending on years of experience. We welcome all applicants.
