About Us

From the Temuan word Punan that means ‘to crave’ comes Perisa Punan, or The Flavor of Cravings.

Perisa Punan is a collaboration between Native Discovery and our Kampung partners with the goal of showcasing to you the best of Malaysia’s indigenous cuisine. In this case, we’d like to feature Temuan cuisine specifically as we believe they have an exciting taste for food that is often overlooked.

Food is intimate, food is a big part of one’s traditional history and culture that is passed down from generation to generation. It’s for this reason that we’d like to make Temuan cuisine more accessible to our customers, as food is, arguably, one of the most important aspects of one’s culture and heritage.

And so we would like to invite you to taste the culture of the Temuan community.

Why Sambal?

If you’ve ever been to one of the Temuan lunch experiences we host over at Kampung Orang Asli Serendah, then you’re likely familiar with the fragrant aroma of Genoi’s sambal kantan. As an iconic dish in our menu, it truly is a flavour bomb you won’t forget!
Many of our guests think so too, so much so that they’ve often entertained the idea of buying the sambal kantan as a treat for their friends and families. Empowered by the amount of support received on our lunch experiences, the ladies of Kampung Orang Asli Serendah have long since expressed their desire to sell their sambal to the masses.
Thus, Genoi’s sambal kantan recipe was born. Led by the matriarch of Kampung Orang Asli Serendah and a loving grandmother, Genoi’s sambal kantan recipe sets the basis of our brand. Each and every bottle produced by the Temuan ladies is a labour of love and is homecooked to satisfy your cravings.
